Biography

2012: In his third season Alex continued to be a runner to watch out for not only in the Region but on the National stage as well. At the Paul Short Race hosted by Lehigh University he placed 17th with a time of 24:30. Also throughout the year Alex placed first in the Division II Challenge hosted by Kutztown University, LHU River Run, PSAC’s, and Regionals. During the Atlantic Regional meet hosted by Lock Haven Alex won his second consecutive individual championship running a time of 30:41. This first place finish helped the team secure a top 3 spot which put them into Nationals. After the Regional meet Monroe was named the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country coaches Association (USTFCCA) Division II Atlantic Region Men’s Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. At the National Championship race he placed 5th just a few seconds from 2nd with a time of 29:18 for the 10K course. This 5th place finish is the second best finish from a Lock Haven runner at a National meet. He earned All-American status for the third straight year and went on for the second year to be named PSAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year

2011: Alex made his long awaited season debut at the Penn State National Meet finishing 24th overall out of 184 runners with a time of 27:11 at the 5.2 mile course. In just his second race of the season at the PSAC Championships he took home the individual title finishing the 8K course in 24:31.5 which is the fifth best all-time at Lock Haven’s own West Branch course. At the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Championships, Alex had yet another great performance taking home the individual crown running the 10K course in 31:39 and leading the Bald Eagles to a second place finish. Following the Regional Championships, Monroe was named the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCA) Division II Atlantic Region Men's Athlete of the Year. Leading the Bald Eagles to the National Championships, Alex placed 10th overall which is the third-best finish in Lock Haven’s history. He earned All-American status for the second straight year and went on to be named PSAC Men’s Cross Country Athlete of the Year.

2010: Had an outstanding freshman season. Alex placed 5th in the Dolan Duals, 2nd in the LHU Invite, 2nd in the Dickinson College Long Course Invite, 26th in the PSU National Invitational, 3rd in the LHU River Run, 6th at the PSAC Championships, 4th at the Atlantic Region Championships, and 32nd at NCAA Championships. Was named PSAC Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the year…Division II All-American.

In High School: 2010 PIAA All State Cross Country...2010 PTFCA Indoor State Runner-Up for 3000m...2010 PIAA AAA 3rd Place finisher in the 3200m...Two Time District 6 AAA 3200 Meter Champion…2008 and 2009 3rd Place Finisher at District 6 AAA Cross Country Championships.

Personal: Son of Mark and Deanna Monroe...Born on March 30, 1992...Majoring in Pre-Physical Therapy.
