LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven (3-5) field hockey scored twice in the second half to nearly pull off the comeback, but Indiana's (Pa.) early advantage proved to be too much as the Crimson Hawks escaped Charlotte Smith Field with a 3-2 victory on Sunday afternoon.
 
IUP (6-1) is currently ranked seventh in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) National Rankings for NCAA DII.
 
The Crimson Hawks opened the scoring just over one minute into the game, before jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first half with goals in the ninth and 27^th minute.  
 
Maddie Friend gave Lock Haven new life in the third period as she scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season off an assist by Maggie Moylan in the 36^th minute.

Bald Eagle goalkeeper Quinty van Luijk gave Lock Haven momentum for a final push after stopping a penalty stroke with six minutes remaining in regulation.  
 
The Haven's defense remained locked in, allowing the Bald Eagles to cut the deficit to 3-2 after Rylee Wassmer found the back of the cage off a perfectly executed corner. Friend and Paula Sigley dished out of the duo assist on the play.

However, IUP controlled possesion the rest of the way to secure the victory. 
  
Lock Haven starting goalkeeper Sophie Owens made one save in the opening 28 minutes, while van Luijk took over the cage for the remainder of the contest.
 
Friend led the Lock Haven offense with four shots, including one on target.
 
Sunday was the program's International Game, honoring all the international student-athletes competing in the contest.
