LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven field hockey team rallied late to force overtime, but visiting La Salle scored the golden goal to escape Charlotte Smith Field with a 2-1 victory in the Bald Eagles' Atlantic-10 (A-10) opener on Friday evening at Charlotte Smith Field.
 
Lock Haven (3-4, 0-1 A-10) trailed 1-0 for much of the second half before Melanie Beall scored the equalizer with 48 seconds remaining in regulation. Beall converted off a penalty corner off an assist from Maggie Moylan. The goal came with Lock Haven playing with an empty net, having pulled goalkeeper Quinty van Luijk for an extra attacker in the final minute.
 
La Salle delivered the winner at 73:03 of the first overtime to hand the Bald Eagles a heartbreaking defeat in their conference debut.
 
Van Luijk was sensational in goal for Lock Haven, recording 15 saves on the night, including nine in the fourth quarter alone to keep the Bald Eagles within striking distance. The Haven goalkeeper faced 26 shots - 17 on target - from a relentless La Salle attack.
 
Beall led the Bald Eagles with three shots, all on goal. Cassidy Clausnitzer and Maggie Moylan each added a shot on target for Lock Haven.
