Softball splits with No. 23 Shippensburg

The Bald Eagles won game two of a doubleheader against nationally-ranked Shippensburg on the road on Friday afternoon

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The red-hot Lock Haven softball team took down No. 23 Shippensburg, 4-1, in game two of a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader on the road on Friday afternoon. The Raiders won game one, 12-1.

With the split, Lock Haven moves to 15-13 overall and 7-7 in the East and Shippensburg is now 16-10 on the season and 6-6 in conference play.

The Bald Eagles are now 4-2 in their last six conference contests.

Game 2: Lock Haven 4, Shippensburg 1
In the nightcap, Shipp led 1-0 after one inning, but The Haven tied the game in the top of the fourth thanks to a home run from Olivia LaMeau, before striking for three more runs an inning later in a three-run big fly by Hailey Irwin to jump out in front 4-1.

Irwin followed her home run by taking away a homer from Shippensburg in the bottom of the fifth to keep the Bald Eagles' advantage at three.

After allowing a run in the first, Talia Ross (10-4) went scoreless in the circle the rest of the way and struck out four hitters, while only giving up three hits. Ross won her team high 10th game of the year.

Maci Brodzina and LaMeau both finished with a pair of hits, while the homers from Irwin and LaMeau proved to be the difference in The Haven securing the win.

Game 1: Shippensburg 12, Lock Haven 1 (Five Innings)
In game one, the Raiders scored in each of the opening four innings, including four runs in the first and five in the fourth to run away with a 12-1 victory.

LaMeau doubled and Gianna Goodman singled and later scored on an RBI by Brodzina to headline the Lock Haven offense.
