Isardat's 89th-minute goal lifts Lock Haven past Pitt-Johnstown

The Haven notches a critical road victory as the regular season nears its close

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – Adam Isardat scored his first career goal in the 89th minute on Wednesday as the Lock Haven (4-3-9, 3-1-4 PSAC) men's soccer team erased an early deficit to defeat Pitt-Johnstown (1-11-2, 0-7-1 PSAC) by a  2-1 tally on the road in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) affair.

Isardat, a freshman midfielder, took a feed from sophomore defender Austen Veach for the winner.

Pitt-Johnstown got on the board first. Noah Pawling converted a penalty kick in the fifth minute for a 1-0 lead for the host Mountain Cats.

The Bald Eagles answered in the 17th minute. Defender Josh Horn scored off an assist from senior Scott Manning to notch his second goal of the season and even the score at a goal each. Lock Haven came out of the opening half with 12 shots to six for the Mountain Cats, but Pitt-Johnstown goalkeeper George Pasko turned away four of them to keep the game tied at the intermission.

The second half brought more of the same. Lock Haven had 10 shots, and two of them hit the woodwork. Patricio Zapata's attempt hit the left post in the 46th minute, and Isardat's try in the 53rd minute hit the right post as the Bald Eagles looked for the go-ahead tally.

Pitt-Johnstown pushed back late in the half, forcing three corner kicks in the 73rd and 74th minutes and another in the 76th. Lock Haven junior goalkeeper Ethan Beck handled the pressure.Bbeck made two saves, both in the first half, as the Bald Eagles defense held strong allowing the Mountain Cats to put only three shots on goal on the evening.

The victory for the Bald Eagles puts the squad solidly in third place in the PSAC Western Division standings.
