LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Lock Haven field hockey team received a two-goal effort from
Maddie Friend and controlled much of the action Friday, but Saint Louis prevailed in a shootout, 3-2, in Atlantic 10 Conference action at Charlotte Smith Field.

The Bald Eagles (3-6, 0-2 A-10) held advantages of 23-11 in shots and 17-6 in penalty corners, but the Billikens (3-7, 1-2 A-10) survived Lock Haven's pressure and secured the victory following a scoreless overtime period. Lock Haven put 17 of its 23 shots on goal.

After a scoreless opening half, Friend broke through in the 32nd minute to hand Lock Haven a 1-0 advantage. Saint Louis responded early in the fourth quarter and tied the game at 46:12 before striking again just 89 seconds later to give the visitors a 2-1 lead.

The Haven answered in the 54th minute. Friend found the back of the cage for the second time, with
Maggie Moylan providing the assist, to pull the Bald Eagles even at 2-2.

Lock Haven continued to threaten in overtime and generated several quality chances. Friend,
Rylee Wassmer and
Eva Drumbore all recorded shots during a flurry of pressure in the 65th minute. Later,
Melanie Beall was denied by Saint Louis' goalkeeper before Friend had an attempt stopped by a defensive save in the 72nd minute.

With the contest still tied after overtime, the teams headed to a shootout. Saint Louis converted two attempts, while Beall scored for Lock Haven. The Billikens ultimately secured the shootout and the 3-2 conference victory.

Friend led the Lock Haven attack with six shots, five on goal and both Bald Eagle goals. Wassmer finished with four shots, while Drumbore and Beall added three apiece. Moylan chipped in two shots and the assist on Friend's second goal.

In goal,
Quinty van Luijk made seven saves over 75 minutes.
